As I traditionally only talk about coupons, promotions and freebies I wanted to take some time to talk about other things that affect military spouses. Today my focus is on Everyday Hero's! Each year, Military Times honors five "Everyday Heroes" -- service members who demonstrate pride, dedication and courage beyond what is expected. These service member's are specifically honored for their dedication, a pride in their country, someone you are proud to serve with and a sailor, soldier or airmen who really cares about their military community. Military Times offers a soldier of the year, sailor of the year, airmen of the year, marine of the year and coastguardman of the year. This is a great opportunity to have your loved one nominated for doing what they do best: serving their country with no strings attached.
So here's the scoop:
Nominees must be serving in the military (active duty, Guard or Reserve) through August 2010 with exceptional service or achievements occurring between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
•High level of professionalism
•Concern for fellow service members
•Commitment to community service.
Personally I feel that all service members provide these characteristics just by serving our country and protecting our freedoms. But if you know someone who really stands out and represents their branch of service in entirety hurry over to Military Times.com on August 1st and make a nomination!
Award:
The Overall Winner of each branch receives the following:
•A week’s trip to Washington, DC for activities and a formal awards ceremony
•All-expenses paid attendance for 2 (transportation to and from Washington, D.C.; lodging and meals; local transportation)
•Formal awards reception and ceremony, and a sponsor after-party on Capitol Hill
•Luncheon with Military Times editors and staff reporters
•Tour of the publishing company and newspaper printing plant
•Professional photographs and video of the awards ceremony
•A feature in the Military Times newspapers and on the 2010 Military Times Service Members of the Year Web site
This is an exciting opportunity for any serviceman. So don't forget to go here to nominate your service member this year. Oh and don't worry, as it gets closer to August I will re post about this award.
